Long before the promenade, this shore welcomed empires. The story of Julius Caesar's landing lives on in every stone, every trail, every wave that kisses Caesar's Beach.
Centuries and centuries ago, while Rome was engulfed in civil war between Julius Caesar and his rival, Pompey, Caesar decided to undertake one of the most strategic moves of his military campaign. He landed on this coastline with a fleet of around 50 ships, bringing with him 15,000 soldiers and 500 horses. When he set foot on land, Caesar used this area to rest and prepare for the march toward Oricum.
This trail, a narrow and difficult route known since Illyrian times, became the path his army followed to reach the interior of the territory.
The story of this landing has remained alive through generations, and today we know it as the moment that gave its name to Caesar's Beach and Caesar's Trail, which is now used for hiking by local and foreign tourists.
In honor of this important historical episode, Caesar's Coin has been placed at Green Coast, a symbol that reminds visitors and residents that this place is not only a modern destination for living and vacationing, but also a part of history that has given it special value and a unique character.
